I know we all get “excited” when we get toned out for a call… but it truly bothers me to see fellow firefighters posting on here bragging about calls and being nosy about calls in other districts. Yes, it’s great to feel passionate about what we do and to be interested and involved in the greater community - but I think a lot of you have lost sight of what this job is really about.
A good call is not one where people get hurt or property gets damaged or lost. A good year is not one where you get the most calls in the county. A good call is one that’s a false alarm, or one that never happens at all. A good year is one where your run numbers are low because you have done your job and educated the community in fire safety and prevention.
Before you start bragging about the awesome traffic accident you had and posting pictures and details, think about how you would feel if the person involved was you or a loved one… you may think twice about sharing that information.
Just something to think about..
story of my life
